Non-Harassment & Code of Conduct Policy

Our Commitment

The 50 Shades of Black Anime Convention (“50 SOBA”) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all attendees, guests, staff, volunteers, vendors, artists, speakers, sponsors, and performers.

We celebrate diversity across race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, body size, and appearance. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

This policy applies to all convention spaces, including but not limited to:

Event venues and hotels

Panels, workshops, screenings, and performances

Artist Alley, Vendor Hall, and gaming areas

Social events, after-parties, and online spaces affiliated with the convention


Definition of Harassment

Harassment includes any behavior that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment, whether verbal, physical, visual, or digital.

Examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Offensive or discriminatory comments regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or appearance
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, advances, or physical contact
  • Stalking, intimidation, bullying, or following
  • Display of sexual, violent, or hateful imagery without consent
  • Threats of violence or encouraging harm
  • Deliberate misgendering or refusal to respect pronouns
  • Inappropriate physical contact during cosplay or photography
  • Harassment via social media, messaging apps, or online platforms connected to the event
  • Cosplay is not consent. Photography requires explicit permission.

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with dignity and respect
  • Listen and comply when someone asks you to stop a behavior
  • Respect personal boundaries and privacy
  • Follow venue rules and local, state, and federal laws
  • Comply with direction from event staff, volunteers, or security

Reporting Harassment

If you experience or witness harassment, you are encouraged to report it immediately.

How to Report:

  • Speak to any uniformed staff member or volunteer
  • Visit the Convention Safety Desk
  • Contact Event Security on-site
  • Report anonymously through the official event reporting method (posted onsite and online)
  • Reports will be handled promptly, discreetly, and respectfully.

Response & Enforcement

All reports will be taken seriously. The 50 Shades of Black Anime Convention reserves the right to take any action deemed appropriate, including:

  • Verbal warnings
  • Removal from a panel, performance, or area
  • Revocation of badge or wristband without refund
  • Expulsion from the event without refund
  • Banning from future events
  • Contacting venue security or law enforcement when necessary
  • The safety and wellbeing of our community will always take precedence.

Confidentiality & Retaliation

All reports will be kept as confidential as possible.

Retaliation against anyone who reports harassment or assists in an investigation is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.


For Staff, Volunteers, Vendors, and Guests

All staff, volunteers, vendors, panelists, performers, influencers, and sponsors are held to this policy and are expected to model respectful behavior.

Failure to comply may result in immediate removal from duties or the event.
